Advice/ how to change rear wheel bearings?

I need to change the rear wheel bearings on my 1.8 16V Corrado.

 

Could anyone give me a quick run down of the procedure for changing these, or are there any guides online anywhere? Do I need any special tools? Any tips or pointers?

Take wheel off

take caliper off

take caliper carrier off with an alen key ( you might need some heat on the bolts?)

Take baring cap off and split pin

undo the bearing nut

take disc off

drive out old bearing

fill bearings with suitable grease

refit bearing with a press or a large socket

refit disc and other bearing, nut, split pin and cap

refit caliper and carier

refit wheel

done

Worth changing discs too if they are worn noticably...

When you refit the bearing nut the washer behind it should be reasonably easy to move side to side with a screwdriver. Do it up too much and the bearing will fail again quite quickly

Recheck the freeplay after 500 miles as it always goes off once settled. There should be only the slightest amount of play when cold checked. A pronounced 'wobble' is way off and it'll fail the MOT.

 

And use VAG SKF bearings only. Cheap ones last 2 weeks, as I can testify!

 

Use a good quality LM grease, Wurth or Castrol.

So where can you get these SKF bearings then? I have been searching but can only find them in America.

SKF are what the VAG rear bearings are.....
