double-6s 0 Posted August 1, 2006 Ok.... My vr went for an mot and failed quite spectacularly on emissions - CO of 10% instead of 0.3%!! If you disconnect the MAF the CO goes down to 0.1 What does that mean? Is the MAF feked? Its overfueling - returning about 18mpg, but sometimes its fine and will return 26 which is ok for me. double-6s 0 Posted August 1, 2006 What about a hole in the downpipe? I got one :) Could the intake of air from the hole make the engine think its running really lean and bung in loads of fuel? Is the lambda in the DP? PS. Scanned twice on VAGCOM and no errors
Chris VR6nos 0 Posted August 1, 2006 That may be an issue  The probe is in the cat pipe. Chris
double-6s 0 Posted August 1, 2006 ah ha!!!! (in alan partridge voice) we could be getting somewhere Christopher :) so the cat pipe being after the DP, that could be the problem then? tried 2 mafs, 2 ecu's, etc
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 1, 2006 Sounds likely, although it needs to be a chuffing great hole to get 10% CO at idle!! Pulling the MAF causes the engine to run uber lean, so can you not blitz it through the MOT like that temporarily?
double-6s 0 Posted August 1, 2006 Its fine on idle with no maf Kev, but then CO nightmare again when they do the high idle or whatever it's called. What the bleedin ell else could it be??? Could the hole in the DP fek the lambda?? It drives sooo much better with no maf!
double-6s 0 Posted August 2, 2006 Can anyone say why the car drives better without the maf, and why the emissions are ok at idle without the maf? Is that normal? And what effect will running without the maf have? Damage? Help!!
dr_mat 0 Posted August 2, 2006 Default failsafe program - it'll run, and it'll no doubt run better than when your dodgy MAF was governing the engine using the failsafe program. It just won't make big power. If anything, I would expect it to overfuel very slightly, but it should still pass the emissions test.
