Austin 0 Posted August 1, 2006 Hi - got a '94 VR6 - suddenly, I'm really struggling to get it into reverse. The gearbox feels smooth, never happened before. When trying to get reverse, the gear stick pushes down as usual (or seems usual), seems to go into reverse but it's first gear! No grating/odd noises. Have taken the cloth cover off, and it looks slightly as if the gear stick is catching the metal plate and maybe not able to push down far enough to engage reverse??? Can't recall any reason why suddenly got this problem - first time it happened was on a super hot day when the engine was pretty hot? Any clues pls? Thanks
ben16v 0 Posted August 1, 2006 there should be a circlip on the LHS of the slidey bit... if the plastic moves over to the left you need a new one cheap as chips!!

Austin 0 Posted August 1, 2006 sorted! A bolt on the pulley rod behind the gear box was slightly loose - seems fine now tightened!
