Getting a vr, help wanted!

Recommended Posts

Ok as some of you may know i am getting a vr soon (very soon now as i have sold my car so weekend maybe :D) so i thought i would put all my questions in ONE THREAD as apposed to asking loads of little questions here and there etc.

I have already searched on common faults/problems with the car so know what to expect and have also done a lot of reading on fixing them etc so i wont ask any of these questions.

Here are my questions:

1. This wont put me off buying one but i just wanna know, is the corrado solid? i.e. when you go over speed bumps in it do you hear much noises, rattles etc because my fiesta was a typical ford and everything rattles and clunked when going over hard bumps.

2. Headlight Loom. How urgent is it to change it? Are the standard lights really that bad? How easy is it to change the loom and wheres the best place to get one?

3. Wipers? I know that the lupo ones are the way to go and i have read up on these so i pretty much know what i am doing with them. I just wanna know the best place to get them?

4. HT Leads. I have heard BERU (?) ones mentions, wheres the best place to get these? Has anyone used magnecor? Any good?

5. Wheels. I am getting some 9x16 brock wheels off of bluevr6rado which look the nuts but some people have mentioned that these will effect the handling of the car. In what way is this? Will they make the steering much heavier?

I think thats about it at the moment. I have printed off the buyers guide and will take that with me and give everything a good check as well as drive the car and check it etc. Has anyone got any other useful tips i should know so i am totally ready to go out and buy me a vr?

Thanks everyone,

Rob.

Speaking from my own experiences ive had two Corrados and they are far more solid than the two Fiestas and one Escort ive owned in the past.

The lights on my old Valver were poor but never got round to changing them and my new one does the job without the uprated loom. Not lighting the town up so could be something to think about.

Lupo wipers or TT wipers are the way ahead, look out for one thats been smashed, ebay or bite the bullet and go to the dealer.

Im running standard HT leads so will be interested in your findings and as for the wheels they shouldnt have a huge effect on steering unless you go for really wide jobs.

Best of luck.

All C's rattle slightly, well squeak is a better word. Its due to the age, and the type of plastic used. You can buy some felt to line most bits and it will cure it, thats it.

Headlight loom is a great mod, but how often do you drive in the dark? Just try and get one before the winter. H100VW use to make them, but he's passed them on to someone else on here, do a search.

Wipers, you can buy these cheaper then the dealers here

HT Leads, I used to have just standard ones, without any problems, but I know a lot of people have uprated ones, not sure on the difference though.

Wheels, aftermarket wheels can be heavier than standard, and also if they are wider then this can cause some tramlining. Tramlining

Thanks stan, i thought they might rattle a bit due to their age but everything rattled on my fiesta so im sure a few little rattles wont bother me lol.

I will do a search on the headlight loom, i do actually drive in a dark alot and up some pretty dark roads so this would be something worth doing for me then?

Thanks for the link to the wipers, they seem a good price compared to what i have heard from dealers etc so i may look into them as we do live in england after all and so wipers are pretty important here!

I had magnecor ht leads on my fiesta and they seemed to be really good and i have seen 1 or 2 C's with them but when i searched i heard some mentions on BERU ones so if someone else can help me with this matter that would be good.

That link is also very helpful for the wheels, i am going to drive around on standards for a while anyway so i will get a feel for how the car drives and so if i dont like it when i change the wheels i may consider changing them for a thinner wheel.

Cheers again for your help mate, much appreciated :D

1. Yes. Very. I had an encounter with a sturdy hedge after having mine for a few weeks. All that needed replacing was the wing. In any other car, im positive it would have done loads more damage.

2. I have one, but not yet installed as im lazy. They are bad, but plenty of people dont have them and get on fine.

3. Group buy still available for the Aero ones? Awesome mod. means you can also see in the rain.

4. Im using standard

5. I dont know, but i bet they look the bollox!

Shaggsy, Thanks alot for your help, some useful answers there.

Ben - yes i remember now, you mentioned that you had a problem starting once and the megnecors cured it and made it better, thats correct isnt it? I was not aware the beru ones were standards i just saw the name and thought they might be some really good make or summin. I will most probably go for megnecor as i can get them for an ok price.

Im still gunna have your wheels mate, just for the looks as they are soooo nice so i will just have to get used to handling issues, although when i drove yours it felt fine and you had even bigger wheels on! The steering felt a bit heavy but then i was used to a little fiesta which are made for grannies and it has a bloody great 2.9 engine over the front wheels so its bound to be heavier!!!

Yeah, one of my standard leads was split so was causing probs starting. before that tho didnt have any issue's. just thought id upgrade as they needed changing!! and they were the black ones, not sure if they were beru or not as they looked old and the markings had worn off!!! and when u say bigger there only 17's instead of 16's same width so similar kind of drive!! just not sure you gonna have it as low as me tho!! lol

Well if they were the same width then the ride felt ok to me, iv been driving around in an old clio mini van since my car sold and its has no PAS and is casically a shed so i dont think the steering will be quite as heavy lol!

Not quite as low as you mate, i dont fancy buying a new sump every week  the one im looking at is lowered 40mm so i will try that for now and if i decide i want it lower then i will save for some coilies :D

Yeah i know what you mean about catching the bug to spend more! I will try not to go too mad, but there's a big difference in saying that to actually doing it  I guess i will just see how it goes. I really cant wait to get one now!!
