latestarter2 0 Posted September 10, 2006 Whilst on tick over and driving there's a constant squeak coming from the engine bay. However when i push the clutch in it disappears???. Any ideas and should i get my chequebook ready?
Supercharged 2 Posted September 10, 2006 Does it go when you just touch the pedal slightly? If so it sounds like the release bearing...
latestarter2 0 Posted September 10, 2006 yeah i guess so....dont have to press the pedal down too far.
Supercharged 2 Posted September 10, 2006 Yeah it is then... The fix is basically a clutch change altho you can buy the bearing seperatly if it's been changed recently (and if so they've used the wrong grease) It *may* not get any worse or even fix itself if grease moves about... latestarter2 0 Posted September 10, 2006 So it sounds like it could be expensive then!!!...How much are clutches?
Supercharged 2 Posted September 10, 2006 £100 for the part... What mileage is your car on?
latestarter2 0 Posted September 10, 2006 85500...doesnt look as though its been done yet judging by the receipts that came with the car.
Supercharged 2 Posted September 10, 2006 Arse - the problem is if the box has to come off then you may as well get the chains done but 85k is a bit early... I'd be tempted to live with it for a bit and see what happens... May be worth checking the gear oil level just incase it's something else (ie inside the box)
latestarter2 0 Posted September 10, 2006 Is there a seperate dip stick for that?...or a reservoir? As you can tell you rae dealing with a complete nerd here.
Supercharged 2 Posted September 10, 2006 Hehe - there is a 17mm allen plug on the side of the box and it should be filled so the oil is up to this level (ie a bit comes out when you remove the plug) Halfords do a tool but you can make one if you have some large nuts kicking about ... Allen key - not sure you can get one in there very easily you need a socket type bit really Clutch = 3 hours (and thats on a lift with air tools etc)
