Paulr1980 0 Posted September 12, 2006 Just wondered if anyone's explored using R1 carbs with a bogg bros manifold. I'm quite tempted to go this way, with a decent set of cams and some head work. 200bhp? I don't fancy a turbo or supercharger. I like high revving Na's. saysomestuff 0 Posted September 12, 2006 I've looked into using bike ITBs a bit, There's quite a bit of info about: clubgti forums - search for posts by Martyn_16v and vwvortex has a forum dedicated to ITBs All i've really picked up is that the problem with bike bodies is that the butterfly sits at an angle when closed, so a tiny change in throttle position has a much greater effect on airflow initially. This means it renders speed/density managment (MAP sensing) pretty useless, you need to manage fuel based on throttle position and load. As far as I'm aware, it's only super blackbird and MV Agusta TBs that sit almost perpendicular to the inlet wall. EDIT - just realised you're talking about carbs, go for ITBs better fuel consumption, mappable etc.etc.
Paulr1980 0 Posted September 13, 2006 Yeah thanks for that. The whole idea for doing this C was to be on a budget yet still get a relatively exciting car, which pretty much renders ITB's out of budget. Whilst I'm sure they are far more effecient, carbs need no management which saves you a good few hundred even using 'squirt. Surely the butterfly angle is relative to the manifold setup?
