_leon_ 0 Posted September 25, 2006 Wanting to remove the manifold and leave as much of the rest untouched - the manifold and TB bolts are lose (loosened quite easily actually) and got a few of the fuel rail bracket bolts off. My question is: does the fuel rail need to be removed to get the inlet manifold off? If so - whats the easiest way to go about it? Thanks
iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted September 25, 2006 no it doesnt leon check this pic dude edit: mate my inlet is still off now i took a pic the other day but cant find it now i ended up popping the fuel pressure regulator off but thats it!
_leon_ 0 Posted September 25, 2006 cheers -if you can find it that would be great andy the rail itself is wobbling around since i've removed various bolts - but the wiring harness part is very solid still - bought narrow socket heads just now so can finish removing the rest tomorrow evening. VEEDUBBED 0 Posted September 26, 2006 When you re-install the inlet mani. grab an old wing mirror and place it on top of the brake lines heat insulation, that way you can at least see most off the fixing bolts by shining a lamp down there, carefull as the bolts are different lengths aswell. While your there i rekon it wise to also change the fuel injector's sealing rubber 'O'-rings,just pull hard on the fuel rail to release the injectors then when re-fitting put some rubber grease on the new 'O'-rings and re-assemble. iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted September 26, 2006 mines wobbling about ill be fitting mine back on friday! gonna ring up steakers now and see about the fuel rail seals as allthough there prob fine if i can do it i mite aswell!
VEEDUBBED 0 Posted September 26, 2006 Probably rock hard and brittle,i would'nt bother with the stealers for the 'O'-rings,places like burlen fuel components should stock them if not try your local fuel injection specialist or Bosch center, maybe even halfords??. _leon_ 0 Posted September 26, 2006 @veedubbed - sure thing, theres a set of them from vag : 030 198 031. however i think i'll soon need new injectors with higher flow so they might come with the seals. worth cleaning the rail etc up though and replacing the seals as i can't imagine them to be expensive. If i disconnect the injectors and regulator - will i get fuel spraying out? @andy - thanks. What did the injector/rail gasket set cost you from vag? edit - got the inlet manifold etc off - loads of room behind there - going to get steam cleaning tomorrow :) is there anything i could do with the throttle body while i'm here - have heard mixed opinions about porting it etc. changing the fuel pipes while i'm here too. anything else worth doing? VEEDUBBED 0 Posted September 27, 2006 Don't worry about fuel being under pressure unless you've turned on the ign. and primed the system. When you disconnect the injectors a bit of fuel will spill out so just bung some old rags under the injectors. Watch out when you get different injectors, always remember that digifart1 needs high imp. injectors, fit low imp 1's and the ECU's injector drivers will fry instantly, how do i know?... iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted September 27, 2006 mate they are expensive about £8.30 or something for each injector and you get 2 seals! luckyily i got a deal! £13.64 with vat! ill get the code for you i have it on invoice! i didnt realise they had new etka till today
