Recommended Posts

I am trying to rebuild the CV on my prop, as all its innards have fallen out in storage.

Can I feck get those balls back in. I have been undernieth the car all night up the fecking eyes in moly-bollock grease and after 3 hours I am no further forward.

I would imagine from the last time I rebuilt a CV joint that it would be almost impossible upside down under the car. Can you remove it to rebuild it or would that be even more of a mission!

I think i have come to the conclusion that is it actually impossible to get on while its still on the prop because of the way its designed.

Saying that the feckers managed to fall out with consumate ease so that statement is probablies a steaming pile of sh't

Another attempt tonight, and if it still doesnt work I am taking my big psycho sized axe to the car.

 a classic task for the apprentice, give them a CV joint in pieces and get them to reassemble it... 7 hours later...

it's really easy if you do it in the correct sequence, my passat haynes manual has a diagram of how to do it I think, but I perfected it on my old mark one all on my own :)

I've had one fall apart while on the shaft, but you need to take it off to rebuild it, you can rotate the middle ring enough while it's on the shaft. there's a good link for rebuilding them on here, in a thread, titled driveshaft help or something. After i rebuilt one, I didn't like the way it moved, so I bought a new one anyway.

The problem you will have Coxy is that the wear on your balls (Oh er) will mean that the will only want to go in a certain way.

Bit of a pain in the ass but in the long run it would be easy to take the drive shaft back of the car, clean up the joint and polish your balls along with the coupling. This way it should go back together a it easier.

not needed mate but thanks anyway. I was basically trying to do something that is pretty much impossible when still on the drive shaft.

I pulled it off tonight and rebuilt the annoying little sh't in about 4 minutes, then fitted it back again in another 5.

And the moral is, dont try and cut corners, it only adds time onto the job when you realise it doesnt work.
