"Stretch friendly" tyre fitters in the south east

Recommended Posts

Morning all

A friend of mine is looking for a stretch friendly tyre fitter to fit some 175's onto his 8J rims. Can anyone recommend a place, preferably as near to Tunbridge Wells as poss.

Cheers 8)

Dont do it. 175'50's on a 7" is the limit in my opinion. You will need a cheetah to get them on and they wont be safe.

Cheers Darren, I'll pass that on. It's going to be driven properly as well as it's not a show car. What size would you recommend?

175 is too stretched imo, when i bought my 9's they had 195's on and the side walls were flat, and had a terrible ride!! I got 215/40's now. On 8's I reckon 195 for the stretched look 8)

195/45 will work if its being driven hard. You can also get 185/45 if you wanted to keep a keen stretch but this is still on the limits.

i am running 195/40 16" on an 8" wide rim...nice stretch and you can still drive the car without the fear of the tyres failing... i ve been running them for a while and never had any problems... and i do drive fairly quickly at times...lol :D

Sorry never seen the appeal of stretched tyres???

They are designed to do a job within specific tollerances, so why try and stretch them onto a rim that they weren't designed to work with.

Go with the correct one and better handling and ride will be had!

It really is that simple!

OK Old Fart ramble over ;)

Nope sorry I deny that, I just look at a stretched wheel/tyre combo and think "first hard corner and that's going to roll off!" or "how long before they kiss a kerb and muller those rims?"

Like I said Old fart, that explains why I love Fat/skinny tyre combo on Rods though...

Yummy and no stretch...
