1.8 16v idiling problem

Recommended Posts

Hi folks.

Got a problem with my corrado, just bought it on Monday aswell.

In the mornings or on cold nights, when i start the car from cold. It wont idle. It will go up the revs then right back down again and cut out. It will stay running if i pump the pedal to keep the revs up, and also missfires badlly.

It missfire all the time, but i have new plugs and leads coming today which should hopefully sort that out. Any ideas on what the cold start idiling problem is?

Couple of things to check......there is an ISV on the right hand side give this a good clean with some carb cleaner. you also have a "5th" cold start injector on the end of the rails going sideways into the inlet, it'll be worth checking to see if this is behaving itself

Misfiring does sound like its electrical related so hopefully the new leads will cure that..

The cold start problem - just wondering the 1.8 16v has a cold start injector the same as a 2.0 16v? That might be something to check... try disconnecting it on a morning before starting the car, and see if behaviour for starting changes. If it doesn't, it could be dead..?

To the right hand side of the engine at the front, follow the fuel lines to the normal injectors and you should have an extra one going into a device that sits horizontal to the engine, should have a blue plug with wires on top of it....
