Jim 2 Posted February 5, 2007 I can't give a better description of it but i'll try my best to expand on it! When driving the car at approx 50MPH I get this sort of whirring / fluttering noise from the front end of the car - below that I don't really notice it and above that I think exhaust / road noise drowns it out. Its not coming from the engine because if I dip the clutch its still there. It appears to worsen if I load the car up into a corner or quieten down if I load it into another corner. Part of me thinks its wheel bearings but I only just had them done around September time.. but.. I think the bearings used were GSF ones and i've heard generally unfavourable things about the lifespan of those. Any suggestions?
Jim 2 Posted February 6, 2007 Hm - obviously too vague a discription. I can't explain the noise any better. Its not a constant drone - its more a fluttering / whirring sort of noise and i'm sure its coming from the front but.. I can't explain it any better than that! My car will be in a local garage getting wishbones changed very soon - can anyone suggest what I should at least get them to check? Cheers.
corradophil 3 Posted February 6, 2007 All I can think of is wheel bearings or tyres which have worn with flat spots. I had this happen and it sounded identical to a buggered wheel bearing.
Jim 2 Posted February 6, 2007 Ah - my tyres are unevenly worn as i'm due a full alignment after getting a load of suspension work done. Been putting it off as I need new tyres anyway. I guess i'll see if it still happens after I get new tyres on! Cheers Phil :)
