0W 40 Castrol RS Fully synth

Recommended Posts

Inherited a big bottle of the stuff with my VR- is it OK to use?

Or should I just get some Synta Silver and stick the Castrol on Ebay?

Cheers!

That was what I was thinking. Certainly not feeling flush, so Ill go for Synta Silver. Cheers Steve! :)

Yeah bit thin but maybe ok in this climate depending on the state of the engine - It will give you an idea of what gaskets need changing anyhow

If you have it already I'd chuck it in and if it does seem a bit thin then treat it as a flush and replace with Synta etc...

I notice Synta has started p1ssing out of gaskets and seals since VW changed the formula from API 501 to 505

As soon as my motor has done 1000 miles it's coming out in favour of Silky 10W/50 :-) Or Castrol Edge 10W/60 and Shell Helix 10W/60 are worth a look too.

Or even Halfords own brand Full synthetic 5W/50 which is in fact the perfect oil......Runny (but not toooo runny) for quick cold circulation and plenty of hot thickness too.

That oil is more than fine. Anything 501, or 505 approved should be fine. I run Mobil 0w40 year round now. I found 15w50 merked my fuel economy and caused the oil temps to rise.
