Engine support beam / Winchy thing

Anyone ever used one of these guys?

 

 

Front subframe on the C needs doing soon, these things come in 300kg & 500kg flavours and locate into the wing channels to take the weight of the engine & box.

Any good, or should I steer clear?

Stealth have one and thats very like the proper VAG tool...

 

How much are they? - could have done with one of them when I did my mums mk3 Golf starter!

I've just replaced a sub frame on a mates C and we used one of these and they work fine. Just remember to put a bit of cloth under each of the feet to protect the wing a bit!

Brilliant things, dead handy too as you can still move the car around when the engine's supported. Machine Mart sell them starting from £50+VAT

Will the 300kg version do? A valver engine & box can't weigh more than that, can it?

You gotta think 300kg's enough haven't you? Like you say it's the valver not the lardy old VR lump you've got in there!

Yep, very useful bit of kit, well worth getting. Also very useful to 'crane' the gearbox with - I've rigged up a separate little hand winch to bolt on the beam for doing that.
