quicky1980 0 Posted February 26, 2010 Interesting. My R32 bushes slotted right in with no fettling required. The benefits of VW not changing things unless they absolutely have to :D I can't be sure until they are in the wishbone, but just trying to slide them into the subframe met with slight contact. The contact may be caused by the 2 layers of powder coating though
quicky1980 0 Posted March 9, 2010 Called Mark at SWICT and he's pretty much done the loom work :D He said he had trouble with the ecm chip and had to send it off to a friend to get sorted  But he should get it back soon. Spoke to dubpower and I forget his name (useless with names!) but great guy to talk to. really friendly and helpful. decided to go with the whole package, manifold, lambdas in manifold and decat pipe...its costing a pretty penny but should be worth it! quicky1980 0 Posted March 20, 2010 Ive now got the dubpower manifold and de-cat pipe. Looks very nice 8) and now just waiting for the loom and ecm to be sent back from SWICT. Started to assemble the subframe after having a nightmare trying to press in the r32 bushes into the wishbones. Today I cleaned up the steering rack ready for a few coats of paint and will give the gearbox a try too at the same time. Anyone know on how best to plumb up the coolant hoses? I need to check but there seems to be no connections on the throttle body like you have on the vr6. what gives?
KipVR 1 Posted March 21, 2010 Are you using the Aux pump from the vr or the R32? It's probably easier to use the VR one, then you just connect them all as usual. Pete Griff didn't have throttle body hose connections on his motor, however i did on my Audi unit, and I've connected them up...

Interesting point about some 3.2's having the coolant connections on the throttle body and some not having any  I think I will use the audi aux pump but in the same position as the vr one. Put the clutch on the engine yesterday and pre assembled the subframe today. the lurvley dubpower setup hers how its all starting to look like...mmmmmm

quicky1980 0 Posted March 21, 2010 very nice mate, nothing like fresh goodies to go on. :) cheers. Its great to see parts that where oily, rusty and generally ugly turn into shiny clean parts. I did come across a slight problem, I ordered a 191 422 884 A steering rack rubber from vw, when I came to fit it I found out it was loose around the steering rack. From what I can tell the rack I have 1H2 422 055 A is from a golf vr6 and should use a different rubber, 191 422 884. It's only a slight difference in part numbers but I guess enough to make a it fit Will attempt to remove the old rod ends and clean up the rods ready to accept nice new parts. Loom should hopefully be back next week. Will need an engine hoist soon.

quicky1980 0 Posted March 21, 2010 Kip how did you wire up the speed sensor, oil temp and coolant temp wiring? Is this a tricky thing to sort out?
quicky1980 0 Posted March 22, 2010 Looking good, how far off completion do you think you are? I think I should now have all the parts to do the conversion. So my aim is to start in on the easter weekend. Anyone know how I am to get the rev meter to display the engines revs? I've been told a can bus adaptor is required. any suggestions on where to get this or how to get around the problem?

Im probly not much use but if you need a hand feel free to give me a shout and ill help if im available :D cool cheers Chris, always need a spare pare of hands. Today I spent cleaning and repainting the gearbox, took a bit of time but the end result was worth it. The hardest thing of the day was taking the old road ends, they were a git to get off even when ground, heated and hammered! But now they are off I can now fit the new boots once they arrive. Slotted the box onto the engine, bit fiddly but got there in the end.
quicky1980 0 Posted March 28, 2010 Been a good day today, managed to buy some 312 brakes off ebay so should have some better stopping power compared to the current 288mm's. Took the old exhaust off and fitted the new one. Interesting enough the gasket should some wierd gas routing. I guess this is for the EGR flow? Ne dubsprt manifold is on and looks sweet. The aux belt i got is too short so will have to find a slightly longer one. re-routed the wiring to how is should be and now the engine looks like what it should. KipVR 1 Posted March 28, 2010 Kip how did you wire up the speed sensor, oil temp and coolant temp wiring? Is this a tricky thing to sort out? Speed sensor and oil temp are as they were originally, just spliced into the new loom, for the coolant you need to put in the extra (grey) switch into the blanking hole on the thermostat housing, this is used for the ECU. Surely Mark is doing all that though? Gearbox looks good mate, they are a pig to clean!! I ended up getting mine blasted to get all the old paint off. Mark is doing the wiring but not sure exactly how much of it will simply plug to the corrado looms/sensors. Your not wrong, spent ages cleaning it and would have blasted it but running out of time. Plus will be going awd in the future so it wont be a permanent fixture. The OEM stubby aerial and 2nd hand 312mm brakes arrived today. So fitted the aerial to the car straight away, no pics yet sorry but I think it makes the car look a bit sleeker. I then removed the disks, pads and carriers off the hub. Will get the carriers onto the current setup on my car and sell on the 288mm's. So hopefully I will have some brake performance to match the engine performance. Unfortunately the loom from SWICT didn't turn up today even though parcel force gaurenteed Mark and I it would be here :mad2: but I've decided to go ahead with the conversion this weekend any way. only things missing are the loom and lambda probes. I've posted a question up on the deffinative guide but no answers there. So, does anyone know how best to fit the floor mounted acc' pedal? Does it need modding/trimming? swiftkid 1 Posted April 1, 2010 herisites has my old floor mounted pedal so might be worth giving him a pm.
KipVR 1 Posted April 1, 2010 You need to get the little fixtures from VW and attach them to the floor, then the pedal bolts into them, Unfortunately this does mean drilling through the floor of the car, or welding studs onto the top of the floor. KipVR 1 Posted April 1, 2010 I'm not sure I haven't mounted my pedal yet, but Pete Griff did his that way and the pedal seemed spot on.
quicky1980 0 Posted April 2, 2010 I'm not sure I haven't mounted my pedal yet, but Pete Griff did his that way and the pedal seemed spot on. Ok will see how it goes. Well, I've started to take the old vr out this morning. Now at the point of bring the engine hoist out and lifting her out. Just gonna grab a tea and then get back to it
quicky1980 0 Posted April 2, 2010 right, all out, just needs a good clean in the engine bay and will then fit the rebuilt subframes. Massive thanks to my lovely girlfriend in giving me a hand moving the engine.
quicky1980 0 Posted April 5, 2010 cleaned up the engine bay and painted it all satin black. Made it look alot smarter. Had some mates come round to slip the new engine in. Decided to go with the standard cooler and not use the mocal air cooler. So will fab up a new bracket, will take notes for future conversion if anyone needs one making up. Loom should be delivered tomorrow, which is about time really! :censored: Damn parcel force!
quicky1980 0 Posted April 6, 2010 Right, taking a little bit longer than I had hoped. Probably a day or so behind, but that's more to do with the loom being late turning up. Here is the promised picture of the engine in situ. I'm a little bit unsure how to solve the following problem. Do I plug up one of the block spigot connections and connect the remaining one to the oil cooler and the crack pipe spigot to the other end of the oil cooler? If so which block spigot needs plugging up. I want to make sure that I don't plug up something important you can also just about see the confusion I'm having with reconnecting the egr and variable valve control valve back up. If any one has a schematic on how it should be, please pass it on...ta. Oh and where the fuel lines run, I have a third pipe. I presume its going to the fuel tank but Im not sure what it does or what I should do with it. It was connected up to a green valve thingy?!?
