Nope, they shouldn't dump air at idle. Your BOV spring is too soft.

 

Or are you using a twin piston one? They work a bit differently....

I've got a bailey piston jobbie fitted to my turboed valver and it's definatly open at idle,as soon as it gets a whif of positive boost it shuts,exellent piece of hardware.

the vacuum on the top of it lifts the diaphragm doesnt it, then when it hits posiutive pressure, it shuts?

Are you talking blowoff valve or wastegate?

 

They are two different parts, that do two different things.

A blowoff valve normally is open when the engine is under vaccum(idle/ partial throttle). It closes then the car is under boost.

baily do a twin piston jobbie for k-jet cars which is open at idle but shuts as soon as you come off idle. normal ones are shut till the negative boost is greater then the positive boost and then it vents to the atmosphire
