livi1982 0 Posted May 20, 2007 I recently bought a 1991 1.8 16V model and have released now I have it home why the guy had it parked away from other cars. When you start dry steering the car squeals from both front wheels. Not mechanical so it's gonna be a garage job. Anyone know what could be wrong and how pricey it'll be to fix? Mate thinks it's the power steering pump and it should be reasonably cheap to replace.
Dec 1 Posted May 20, 2007 Sounds like the v-belts slipping to me! Also the cheapest / easiest thing to check, so a good place to start, before changing pas pumps! I think the three belts can be replaced for less than a tenner from the likes of GSF. If you look under the car just behind the pas pump, you can see some bolts for adjusting the lower v-belt. Get some new belts, and make sure they are tight enough, so that they aren't slipping
