Is there a risk of the bolt snapping inside the crank?

I guess there must be;thats the whole point in changing it?!

Hmm...

Ok,my irwins have arived,I only have the basic set at the moment as that is all they hadd in att.

None of them seem to fit the crank allen bolts although I guess the 1/2 one is close?

Do I need to have the full set of irwins or should I somehow try to force th 1/2 on.

I want to get this right first time if poss.

thnks in advance.

Hi dan...i'm getting close.

There is a vw rally about 5 miles from my house this weekend so I am desperate to get this damn thing finished.

The crank pulley isn't moving.

I guess the things get pretty fused over time, and I think my C has been neglected(Partly my fault).

I guess I have to just give it some whelly.

Its just that as I have it all set up for TDC I don't want it to move too much while I'm pulling at it.

just read a similar thread and he resolved it by taking off the crank pulley as well as the drive belt pulley i.e removing the center bolt.

Doh.

Its come back to haunt me.

Are you just wanting to replace the cam belt? If so you dont need to take the bottom pulley off.

If you have the bolts out and its not moving give it a wack on the side with a modfying device and

it will fall off

all the bolts are off,its just the charger/alternator pulley that I need off to remove the bottom cambelt cover.

I will search for my largest modifying device.

:)

drive an 8mm spline in where?

8) Now I expect nothing less than a fully running car tomorrow! :D

No more excuses! But do take care to double then triple check the timing marks before you start her up

If there not bang on, take it off and do it again

Got called out to work just got back

New belt and tensioner are on.

Just trying to line up the timimg mark on the crank pulley with the auxillary shaft sprocket mark.

when you put the belt over the top cam sprocket everything tends to move.

shouldn't be long now though.

O.k one more question b4 i put her back 2gether.

The timing mark on the auxiliary.

There are two marks on this sproket.

A single punch hole mark and a cut out with O and T either side of it.

Which one is the mark which must be in line with the mark on the crank pulley?

ta.

If you mean the crank aux pulley there should be ony one mark, sort of a cut in the rim.

The intermedate shaft pully has a dot (punch mark) in it though :?

I meant the IS

I have used the dot (punch mark so I will go and put her together now).

I'll take some spare underware down too for the moment of truth.

Hey,

So i'm looking at the base of the distributor and I can see the retaining clamp at its base but I can't see how it is fastened.

I need to adjust my ignition timing.

Any pointers?!

thnks yet again.
