Supercharged 2 Posted June 9, 2007 There is a 13mm headed bolt holding the clamp, undo this then turn clockwise to advance... Halfords flexi-head ratchet spanners very useful for this.
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 9, 2007 Here? see pic. I guess i have to do it by feel?!
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 10, 2007 Hi sorry but i'm a bit stuck on this one. See the black plastic cover in the pic between the dizzy and the dizzy retaining clip. How do I get that off? thnks in advance.
DanVW 0 Posted June 10, 2007 Hi Mate you need to pull the rotor arm off before you can get the dust cap off, I havent touched the dizzy advance since I have had mine but I think the bolt is underneath the dizzy and slightly to the left as your looking into the engine bay
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 10, 2007 Hi mate, I don't mean the dust cap;I meant what I believe to be a plastic cover over where I believe the retaining nut is. Although I may be wrong on this?!? (See Arrow on pic above)
Riley 0 Posted June 10, 2007 Those black plastic covers just tend to break off.I think they have a pin in them but im not sure you can actually get too it! Hardly ever see them to be honest. Neil.
Supercharged 2 Posted June 10, 2007 Hmmm yeah does look like something is covering it (there shouldn't be) and also the hall sender should be 90 degrees to where it currently is (out of the factory)
Riley 0 Posted June 10, 2007 Hmmm yeah does look like something is covering it (there shouldn't be) Tis the oe cover for the bolt 8) Once you break it off,you kinda think ahhh thats how it was held on
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 10, 2007 Those black plastic covers just tend to break off.I think they have a pin in them but im not sure you can actually get too it! Hardly ever see them to be honest. Neil. so shall I hit it with a modifying devicde ? :) Hmmm yeah does look like something is covering it (there shouldn't be) and also the hall sender should be 90 degrees to where it currently is (out of the factory) Does the hall sender position matter?..... I have aligned all three timing marks a la Bentley and the various guides on this and the Canadian site etc. But if the dizzy isn't fixed where it should be then this would throw out the timing no?? Supercharged 2 Posted June 10, 2007 Ah cheers Riley... didn't realise No I don't think the postion does matter if it's been off as you just rotate it when timing but I guess it just makes it easier to get to the bolt if it's at the side.. (which is how I thought they left the factory but maybe not the case if yours still have the cover on the nut)
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 11, 2007 plastic cover is off. Ok The assembly is very reluctant to move. Which part am I applying force too.I don't want to be too heavy handed and break something. ta.
DanVW 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Hi Mate, Am staying out of this one as I have never done it :-) Interested to see how you get on though! Have you had the the CO and the idle setup properly? (properly as per bently!) Dan
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Checking the ignition timing is on the back burner now. The fuel pump is not priming the engine when turning the ignition on again. I have changed the fuel pump relay and the fuel filter. I have ordered a fuel pump and if that dosn't work I will be dousing the corrado in petrol and setting light to it. Burn baby burn. Are you going to the GTI festival?
DanVW 0 Posted June 13, 2007 Are you going to the GTI festival? Would love to mate but just cant afford to do anything at the moment :( Sorry to hear your still having problems with the beast too, there is nothing worse than an intermmitant problem with your pride and joy! I have issued mine with a "your going to get recycled" warning a few times myself  Stick with it mate and you will soon forget once she is up and running again! Sorry if you have been through all this but if I was you I would be checking: 1, Iginition switch (very very common!) know it was mentioned before but I cant remember if you changed it? 2, fuel pump wiring (stick your meter across it and see if its getting the required 12v while someone turns the key)
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 13, 2007 Not surprised u have no money looking at the spec list for your rado  Looks like the only way i'll be going is on the bus. I will bear your suggestions in mind although I changed my ignition switch last year..........
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 16, 2007 engine starts, idles and drives smoothly every time now. Normal oil running temps. Clear exhaust fumes changed ecu relay for starting issue and fuel pump for running issue. So getting there..i think. However the car is very flat. I guess its coz I have changed the cam belt and maybe the aux pulley was slightly off when i reassembled. (That was the hardest pulley to stop from moving when aligning all the timing marks) Thus I guess the ignition timing may be slightly off?
DanVW 0 Posted June 16, 2007 Cool  glad your getting there! Sounds like the timing is a little off like you say Only one way to sort it, get that belt off an keep doing it till its bang on ;-) It is a pain in the ass but once its done she will be flying
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 16, 2007 yeah,i can feel i'm close.
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 17, 2007 So I have the engine running with the blue temp sender diss'ed off as my ignition timing is off. I have loosened the retaining bolt at the base of the distributor, but I can't seem to get the thing to budge. I tried just grabbing it but then i got a nice shock from one of the ignition leads. Is this some kind of dark art? cheers
dirtytorque 0 Posted June 17, 2007 Couldn't be arsed with fidling with the dizzy in the end. Re-timed engine paying more attention to the auxillary pulley this time i.e the distributor pulley. Car is flying now. Seriously I was shocked,it pulls like the proverbial steam train. Gave her a good 50 odd mile run out.Through town,on A roads;and on the M4.She came through with flying colors. Damn these cars are awesome when they work. Now i can fit my FM intercooler thats be sat in my house for two week. Oh and DanVW;cheers . :D :thumbleft:
DanVW 0 Posted June 18, 2007 Nice one mate glad she is all working now  see told you it would be worth the hassle in the end! Get that FMIC on there and enjoy 8) Dan
