Does dampness effect the distributor or starter motor...?

Recommended Posts

Have trawled the search facility, but couldn't really find anything, I figured what the lack of temp gauge and such was, but I'm still not sure on the intermittent starting...

Seems to be definately connected with being damp/wet, happened on my last 'rado and it was apparently the distributor, but before I go changing that is there anything else it could be as I'm having no other ignition related troubles...

Cheers

It all depends on whether the engine is actually turning over. If it is then don't worry about the starter motor. Dampness can affect any ignition parts though, make sure they are in good nick, clean and dry. You could also run the car up at night and look for arcing under the bonnet, that would pinpoint any weak points.

Ahh I should have mentioned, it doesn't even tick over, but when it does start it does it instantly, which I guess is a good thing...

I'd change the dizzy cap and rotor arm as a matter of course as they're both cheap parts. A hairline cracked dizzy cap will let moisture in and cause problems.
