Could it be a noisy water pump or water somewhere?

the other night the car cut out during what was the worst rain storm I have ever seen.

 

the car started in a lupy fasion after a few mins, and after a drive it seemed ok. although there was a squeeking noise coming from the left side of teh engine as you look at it.

 

But now there is a pronounced wine coming from the same sort of area. any ideas?

 

 

the search seems to indicate that this could be the water pump, Co incidence or might ther be water in the belts, or altonator?

 

Im hoping it isnt to serious, but would rather not suffer a water pump failure when traveling along.

Sounds likely, put a screwdriver on it and have a listen...

With the car running put the end of a screwdriver on the belt tensioner and put your ear to the handle, if the bearing is shot youll be able to hear it chattering or screaching....

Just don't put it on the belt itself else thou shalt lose an ear/fingers/face/other body part :lol:
