watercooled turbochargers...

hey guys, could you give me some advices..

 

i'm gonna add a watercooling on my turbocharger,

and i'm thinking that where would be the best place to take

the hose into charger from and then take it back?

 

should i take it to turbo from between the engine and the thermostat

and then take it back to between the cooler and the engine?

 

am i totally on wrong tracks here?

Not sure what you mean by "adding watercooling"?

 

You can't 'add' water cooling to a turbo, the centre section has to be cast with the water galleries in it at the factory.

 

What engine is it going on? If a VR6, you can use the existing throttle body coolant lines.

 

If not, drill and tap a core plug at the back of the block on what ever engine and fit a barbed NPT fitting for your water feed, and the water return feed back to the expansion tank.

first of all thanks for the fast response!

 

the charger (KKK26) is now at a turbo-workshop and the midsection

will be replaced with a part from porsche 944 (watercooled).

the engine is a 1.8T 20V (AEB)

 

is that the only way to take water? i mean can't i take it from the

same connection where the water leaves from the engineblock to thermostat?

 

ok, so it would be wise to make it go back to system via expansion tank?

The 1.8T already has water line feeds, can't you use those or did you not get all that with the engine?

 

Yeah you can take the water any where from the main flow, perferably before the thermostat otherwise the turbo won't get any water until it opens. I suggested the core plug as it's very close to the turbo and there's always water flowing round the block with or without the thermostat...

oh is there. i haven't yet gave a proper look at, because the car is new and i've had lots of work to do.

so there should be a plugged waterline in the engineblock already waiting for me?

that would be more than nice : )

Yeah they are blue coloured if I remember correctly and one is up on the top left side of the engine near the water expansion tank. It's been a while since I looked at 1.8T properly!
