V5 gearbox

Straight to the point - what parts are needed and how much work would it be to fit a V5 gearbox to a VR6?

I am sure I ve read somewhere on here that the box should fit fine. I believe the v5 box also has a shorter final drive. Not to sure about the signal for the clocks though.

the 02J 20V 1.8T has a different bell housing then the Vr6 so it will not bolt onto the Vr6 engine. The internals will swap into the VR6 case.

I've discused this with one of the tuning shops before, as far as it was put to me the bell housing needs swapped over and the mount needs some modifications. Nothing much more.

I think it may be a version of the super tough O2M.

 

Bigpantsbaby has put one of those in his and it needs nothing more than a mount from dutchdub, apparently.

 

I'm not sure how the gearing works out because certainly in R23 flavour, the O2M is expecting 18" tyres! So the gearing could prove incredibly short if you run 15s.

I am sure I ve read somewhere that its got a 3.9 Final drive. Does anyone know anywhere online to find the ratios?

It does have a 3.9, thats why I was considering it :-P

 

So it looks very do-able, does anyone know for certain what the differences are?

The V5 box will bolt straight onto a VR6 block, I've done it myself, no mods at all to the box

 

If you are wanting to do it for the lower gearing of the V5 box, then let me give you a word of warning, the 3.94 final drive is a touch too short for the VR, you will be forever changing gear, and motorway speeds are a headache!

I was thinking the V5 was actually a 5 valve gear box aka a 1.8T greabox. Yeah I think I've hear of the 2.5 having the same bolt pattern as a Vr6. Hell I think I've hear of the 2.5 as being a VR6 with one less cylinder.
