tallpaul1977 0 Posted September 29, 2007 I have read the Wiki guide, but im a bit stuck. The Powerflex rear bushes I have are too large to fit. When fitting the bushes do you have to cut the half circle shape off the rear beam?
Dec 1 Posted September 29, 2007 Yup, that is part of the metal sleeve of the original bush. It needs to be pushed out of the rear beam with a special VW tool, a couple of people have made their own DIY tool apparently. (I'll try find the pic of it for you)
Jim 2 Posted September 29, 2007 What we did on mine that was fairly effective (as those things wedge in HARD as you can imagine) is drill out what was left of the rubber part of the bush so you're just left with the metal sleeve in there, then with a hacksaw just cut into the sleeve lengthways. Obviously be careful not to keep sawing into the axle but once you've got through the sleeve, the strength of the sleeve is lost and it can be removed a bit easier.. gentle use of a hammer, etc :)
tallpaul1977 0 Posted September 29, 2007 thanks guys. the rubber part of the bush has already been removed, just the metal is left. Out with the hacksaw tonight then!
