Throttle cables on '95 Corrado's

Just a word of warning to anyone with a 1995 Corrado.

 

They changed the throttle cable mid-way through the year :shock:

 

Early '95 needs this one...

536 721 555

(up to VIN numbers ending with 50-S-004 000)

 

Late '95 needs this one...

536 721 555 D

(With VIN numbers greater than 50-S-004 001)

 

An easy mistake for most garages to make it seems... :roll:

Sorry mate, no idea :silly:

 

Although I am a little confused now. The reason this came about was a certain tuning company ordering the wrong one saying that my car was around the time that VW changed all their standard cables. I assumed that meant, I was after the change, an easy mistake to make you'd think...

 

Last night I checked my VIN and it ends with 003 886 which means mine is actually from before the change :scratch: AFAIK the number stops (i.e. the last C ever made) at about 004 143 (I can't find where I got this number now :lol:) which means only 150 out of all C's have this revised cable.

 

I'm hopefully getting mine changed on Sat, let's hope they got the right one :lol:

 

I got this information from that russian site :wink: and I think I've interpreted it correctly dunno.gif

Juat a quick update...

 

VW sent the wrong cable :shock: which leads me to suspect I actually have the new cable and not the old one as ETKA suggests.

 

Apparently the difference is the 'end' although I have no idea which 'end' nice mr mechanic was talkin' about :oops:

 

Long story short, they put my old cable back on and lubricated, tightened etc. (they said it was fine, even though I had taken the coating off!) and everything is back to normal :?:

 

I'm beginning to think it might have been my throttle pedal sticking and not the cable after all...

Speaking of throttle cables.....I'd overlooked mine was saggy since I've had the car! Removed the slack and now realise what I've missed out on all these months! Wow, insant throttle response and much much better pull low down. And there was me faffing about with sensors and things.....doh!

Mines well tight, it fells like the brake pedal! now, it's an 8v, but I want to fit a VR6 in the near future. if I buy a VR6 cable now, will it work with the 8v? or vice versa?

 

anyone got the part number for that one, I haven't got ETKA at the mo. can't get it working on XP.

Hey bud, click on the link below to find you accelerator cable part no's... It's part number 30 (scroll down for it)...

Since the part numbers are different for ABV (VR) and ADY/2E (8V), I'm guessing that means you can't use the VR cable with the 8V...

 

Interesting to note from that diagram... Cruise control was never a factory option for RHD C's... :rabiit:

You need to run it in compatability mode for windows 98/Me (right click on shortcut and click on properties)

Mine had a visible droop in it!

 

Don't see why a VR cable won't work, try it and if it's no good, keep it in the garage ready for the beast!

 

There is a thread on here about VR throttle cables somewhere, seems VW have been playing around with the part numbers again.

I ordered the VR one anyway, I'm sure it's the same fitting, just longer. I see so many mk2 VR conversions where they've kept the old cable and it isn't long enough to run through the gap in the cam coaver like it's meant to.
