Churchy 0 Posted January 13, 2008 Hi all, Here's a bit of a random one! Occassionally when I am coming off a motorway / dual carriage way with the engine revs dropping the oil warning light starst to flash and buzz until I change down and then it stops. It doesn't happen every time. I am guessing (and hoping!) it is a bit of dodgy / loose wiring somewhere as I cannot find an oil leak and the engine oil levels are fine. Occasionally I need to top the oil up but not overly much for a C that's done 192k! Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.
dirtytorque 0 Posted January 13, 2008 hi from obvious and cheap to more serious. low oil levels :) faulty sender blocked oil pump pick up Tired oil pump worn engine bearings :( Is your dipstick guide funnel in good order. If they are broken then this can cause u to think oil levels are ok when they are not. Also is you engine running at normal temperatures. Hi temps can cause oil to thin and thus cause lower oil pressure. Use the seach my mate.Lots of examples of this one. ta
Supercharged 2 Posted January 13, 2008 At 192k it could well need a new pump if original... Not trying to worry you but I wouldn't drive it until sorted (or at least until you've connected a pressure gauge!)

Dub_nut_g60 0 Posted January 13, 2008 Thanks guys for the advice - unfortunately I have to get to Bristol tomorrow for 7am!!!!! Guess it'll be a slow journey and then off to the garage on Tuesday! Please dont take the car! Read my post near the bottom of this page to see what was actually wrong with my car when my oil warning light was going off. If it is 'just' a tired pump you could cause damage to your engine. I cant stress how important it is to get the car checked out.
dirtytorque 0 Posted January 13, 2008 I drove mine for months with it beeping intermittently b4 I sorted it. Not as a daily though... but its still not too clever  However Supercharged is right. Its not to be recommended. For a start the charger relies on a good oil supply to lubricate it. Good luck
