redhotpq 0 Posted January 15, 2008 hi all, my oil temp has been very high with a couple of days and in my last journey the oil light started flashing and the buzzer aswell(i had to stop and let the car cool down for about half an hour before i drove home). just before this i flushed the coolant system and put in new coolant because the water temp light was coming on while driving....this seemed to fix the problem as the light stopped flashing. but it seems like there must be some blockage somewhere. A friend tells me i should flush the coolant system again a few times and use rad flush, also flush the oil with oil flusher and take out the termostat along with doing a few other things. But before i do anything i want to get some opinions/advance...so any ideas please replythanks in advance Pat

redhotpq 0 Posted January 15, 2008 well this is the thing because the bloody temp went up to 150- i couldn't believe it would go to this extreme. the coolant went to about 90. yes the fan kicked in alright. and oh yea i own a 1991 H reg 1.8 16v. cheers
dr_mat 0 Posted January 15, 2008 Check your water pump ...
nocrap 0 Posted January 15, 2008 Check for firmness of pipes when warm, could be that the pumps not going but you would still have flow if it wasn't...the other thing is the thermostat, if this doesn't open you wont have flow and will have a firm pipe. The other thing is air lock, take the header cap off and give your pipes a squeeze with the engine running from cold and check for bubbling... and lastly don't let you engine get that hot again as you might find it'll cost you a few more quid to sort......150*! shaking2:
Walesy 0 Posted January 15, 2008 It might be worth checking the oil temp sender mate, I had a G60 that was showing oil temps like that due to the sender being duff.
nocrap 0 Posted January 15, 2008 It might be worth checking the oil temp sender mate, I had a G60 that was showing oil temps like that due to the sender being duff. Yeah actually, i would have expected water temps to be a lot higher than the norm with oil temps like that.
Walesy 0 Posted January 15, 2008 Yeah they should be roughly in the same area, the other thing it might be is a blocked oil cooler?
