HT - leads mmm!!!!

Recommended Posts

i don't understand why the 16v ones are more expensive??? do the VR6 leads match the resistance specs of each lead compared to the 16v leads?

Standard ones i mean...if they do then i'm just better off paying less and buying VR ones.

Have you actually checked the price of the 16v leads or are you just refering to the earlier post ??

yeah i've checked:

part code: ILSBI16V

For All 16 valve models= £125.00

does anyone know the difference in resistence of each lead of each engine? should be in a haynes manual/bentley manual for the engines...

if the VR6 leads are similar to the 16v leads figures...i could just buy VR ones.

Still don't understand why theyre more bux for my sized engine...when VR's and G60's are blatently more powerful and would probably be able to make use of the change in leads. :?

do the STANDARD VR6 leads match the resistance specs of each lead compared to the STANDARD 16v leads?

They're more expensive because of the L shaped recess tubes that go into the head. VR6 and G60 just use regular ends which are a lot cheaper to produce. As for resistance, they should all have 5-6Kohm radio interference suppressors in the Dizzy end.

will the vr ones not fit then? if they all use the same resistance...are the plugs 'that' hard to get into my block.

I doubt it, I've never tried!

The 16V plugs are very different to the VR6 ones, physically, so best to stick with them to avoid running problems.

ok..i guess i'll ave to wait and buy some 2nd hand leads from someone...

Bally- its £125 or thereabouts for some so called performance leads...not some aftermarket replacements from GSF or VAG...i'm talkin magnecor, or twin spark...luminition or mega leads.

I've looked everywhere...and cheapest is the megaleads i think at £112 or so.

Khida bro, IMO is there aint much point in performance leads? the standard ones do a good enough job, not unless you've got money to waste

I got a set of six, from Volkswares in Leicester. I think they were about £80. They say "BBT Silicone Copper GERMANY" on the leads. They seem fine. The car was misfiring at the time, and i needed it to work properly and urgently, so just bought them there and then without shopping around.

Anybody know where you can get decent red ones from? Really set off a vr6 engine bay...

i was lookin through PVW today and noticed 'Big Boys Toys' selling 'FLAME THROWER MAG X2 leads'

these come in red/yellow/blue or black.

8mm silicone containing spiral wound stainless steel core with dual spark paths.

OE style ends too.

8v, ALL= £39.95

16v, ALL= £74.

VR6= £84.50.

all prices inc. VAT!

sounds good to me...what do you guys think?

If the leads didn't help the engine at all...then they wouldn't charge so much for them. I understand the standard ones will do the job good enough...but if you've got money to spend on the look of the engine bay, these leads look better i think.

Thanks Steve. One at a time and even I cant go wrong

Yeah - I learned that lesson the hard way. Old mk2 Escort when I was 17. Took the leads off - couldn't remember where to put each one back. Fortunately one of my neighbours also had a similar car so I just copied his setup to finally get it running again..

OK I got these and fitted them. For the G60 you need to screw on a connector to the top of the spark plug. Not noticed any difference (didn’t really expect to) but lead four behind the alternator because of its position is hard to get on right. So much so the thing was just resting on top after a few drives, so the car wasn’t firing on all cylinders :( any way I adjusted the screw on part but not the lead sits up higher than the rest exposing more of the plug. Anyone else fitted these and had the same problem or is my number four lead screwed. Bit disappointed that they don’t fit the same way as standard as they give a really positive grip on the spark plug. Is the fact that this is sitting higher going to cause problem i.e. damp cold start etc?

I got the 8.5 mm and they fit in the standard clips and do look better :)

Got an arcing lead and am gonna get some new ones for my G60. Can someone recommend good leads to get. Gonna replace the plugs (from dealer) dizzy and rotor arm too while I'm at it. Someone told me that the lead being buggered could lead to the engine needing set up for timing etc again. Is this true or a load of rubbish? Was gonna buy all the bits and book it into star to get them fitted and get them to set it up on the Rolling Road. Any suggestions?
