skinnyman9000 0 Posted February 11, 2008 Ok. I have a 1990 1.8 16V. It idles at just above 3k, wont drop at all. Then when i turn the ignition off to rev needles drops straight down. Instead of slowly lowering with the speed of the engine it just instantly dies. Any idea? I've cleaned the existing ISV and replaced it with another (altho untested) one, and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. The problem is that the MOT has ran out, so i cant drive it to a garage, and even if i could the revs are far too high anyway. I'm hoping to rope in a VW nut from work to help, but anything i can do before hand will be a bonus. Cheers for any help.
kow 0 Posted February 11, 2008 See the other thread on more idling problems and check you havn't got a faulty water temp sender telling the ECU that engine is cold, therefore overfueling. The revs drop off immediately as it's an electrically powered instrument, turn the key off and it all dies, this is normal.
