Son_of_Thor 0 Posted February 20, 2008 Idle speed on the car is too high at the moment, but I'm hoping that a new temperature sender is going to sort that ... Took the VR out for it's first spin on the motorway this morning - The clocks report that the car runs at 4250RPM at 70 in 5th gear. Car anyone tell me if this is normal?? Cheers Si
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 20, 2008 Nope Should be 3000rpm at 70mph in 5th You might have the incorrect clocks, or the rev counter is faulty.
Son_of_Thor 0 Posted February 20, 2008 Cool, cheers - I thought it seemed a little high!

Supercharged 2 Posted February 20, 2008 What do the clocks go up to? (16v rev counts go to 7k)
Son_of_Thor 0 Posted February 20, 2008 Red-line band starts at just under 7k rpm - looks like the end of the red-line band finishes just short of 8k rpm
Supercharged 2 Posted February 20, 2008 Err.. yeah i'm fairly sure they are 16V clocks dude!
Son_of_Thor 0 Posted February 20, 2008 Looks like ur right - just done an Ebay special and all of the VR6 clocks on there red-line at 6.5k rpm... I'll add a new rev counter to my list then!! Thanks Si
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 20, 2008 Might need the whole VR6 cluster mate because the VR6 being a 6 cylinder sends 3 tacho pulses to the clocks instead of 1.
Son_of_Thor 0 Posted February 20, 2008 The speedometer/fuel gauge and everything else seem to work OK - The other thing that isn't right is the temp gauge but I'm hoping a new sender will sort that. Might be just as easy to replace the whole set of clocks tho and have done with it... Hohum
