tappety tappety tappet advice.

Recommended Posts

If you've not guessed, I've got a noisy tappet - No it's not the chains before anyone suggests it.

It's been noisy for a while not getting any worse, but also not getting any better. I've decided I may as well get round to doing something about it, in a month or so when the days are longer and it's hopefully a bit warmer.

I guess there's no other way except removing the cams, how long a job is it for a fairly competent DIYer (VR6 motor)? I've no garage so the works got to be done outside.

Anything else I should check whilst doing the job? I will check the chain pads for peace of mind whilst I'm there but it's not rattling.

Is there an easy way of identifying the culprit or is it better to replace all 12?

It's just had a service and fresh oil hasn't made a difference.

Car's showing just shy of 98k for info.
