funny smell and a few other questions??

Recommended Posts

when i turn on my heater fans sometimes i get a funny smell..i dont know how to describe it really..kinda musty..the car has had the heater matrix replaced a couple of years ago and the heater works just fine on all settings so im kinda stumped as to what it could be? it seems to be stronger when i pull away or accelerate, but as i said it only happens occasionally!

also, i cant help but think the car feels a little underpowered..im sure it felt faster when i first bought it..maybe im just getting used to it but i swear it doesnt accelerate as quickly as it used to..there is also a slight misfire i think, and it seems to get worse when warm.. so im thinking the two could be related?

any help much appreciated as always!

On the smell could it be the oil breather, I say this as when my car was in for a test, one of the mechanics pointed out the breather was split and when I said I never noticed a problem, he said you might smell something different inside the car.

If it is there, VW sell you the whole part but Ford can sell you an individual part.

having had a good chat with a mate we came to the conclusion its not misfiring..had a good look/listen earleir and when giving it a few revs in neutral there is a popping coming from the exhaust..like a small backfire...could this be some sort of air/fuel block??? my mates old mk1 used to do a similar thing, and sometimes feel underpowered, and it turned out to be a fuel blockage!
