Main beam woes - Stalk prob.

Just before I try and change my indicator stalk I want to ask if there is an easy fix for my problem. Last night on the way home I put my lights on main beam and there was a cracking sound then when I dipped them and tried to put them back on main beam there is no click and the indicator stalk fals back. Is it knakered or can I fix it.
