Changing ignition leads

Recommended Posts

Just had a bit of a disaster i think changing the leads on my 2.0 litre 16v. I thought it would be a pretty straight forward job so i changed the leads, distributer cap and rotor arm. When I came to start it up it started to turn over then a load pop came from the engine and some smoke started to come from the area around the air filter. After this i tried putting the old parts back on but it wont start at all now. Can anyone suggest what has happened or what damage i have done.

did you take all the leads off at once or do em one at a time,

if all at once then as said, firing order will be wrong but otherwise then im not sure.

I have got it sorted i did have the firing order wrong like you suggested, thanks for the help guys, just a leaky coolant hose flange to sort now which should be easier.

yeah the smoke would either be the fuel vapour coming back out or actual smoke from the petrol igniting but at the wrong point in the cycle.

glad to hear you've got it fixed though :D
