Andy T 0 Posted December 1, 2003 Found that my G60 had the 'wrong' plugs, they were the type for the 1.8 GTI engine. I went out and bought the proper Bosch G60 platinum plugs, £9.25+VAT each!!! The car seemed to run fine on the GTI plugs, so why do they need to be different? The core/prong are tiny little things, how many miles should they last? cheers
Furkz 0 Posted December 1, 2003 that was the same question i asked......???? apparently after some duration they can start to wear down the performance...... i was told this by a "specialist"
h100vw 0 Posted December 2, 2003 W6DPO are platinum and they last for eons cos they erode really slowly. Standard plugs are past their best in 10K. Gavin
Andy T 0 Posted December 2, 2003 Aye, it seems they are a good long term investment, up to 60k miles apparantly! :D cheers
Fat Tony 0 Posted December 4, 2003 VW seem to change them every three years if you go with VAG servicing So I suppose they are cheaper than replacing every year. And there is only four  Not often you can say the G60 gives good value in this way :?
Supercharged 2 Posted December 5, 2003 Yeah, I havn't really got a problem with paying £40 for a set when they last 4-5 years... Apparently its worth giving them a clean every year tho...
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 6, 2003 With forced induction engines you do need platinums. When I had my 16V Turbo, I stuck some normal Bosch triples in and it ran like a bag of poo. So I put some Audi S3 plugs in (£20 each!) and it ran like a dream. Platinums have a more concentrated spark to cope with the increased gas speed and volumetric. They also cope with the heat better. corradovr6sc 0 Posted December 6, 2003 Are copper electrode plugs ok for FI? They seem to be used a lot on the US, especially on supercharged vws.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 6, 2003 If you've got a VR6 supercharged, might be better to use the NGK plats or perhaps some S3 jobbies, I think they're same thread size. There are some iridium plugs doing the rounds at the moment which seem to be getting good reviews. I think Nippon-denso make them. Kev
g60bv 0 Posted December 8, 2003 the originals are the best even thou they are a tenner each, it's to do with the heat generated by forced induction, but they do last for ages.
