peanut 0 Posted June 18, 2008 can it be done without taking the head off? as in sump off, pistons out? Cheers Gav
ziderapple 0 Posted June 18, 2008 Well you'd have to take the crank off aswell. I dont think you'd ever get them back in that way either - they can be a pain from the top due to the angle of the bores, there is a special tool for getting them back in. Incidentially I own one, so if you need it in the future give me a shout. HTH
peanut 0 Posted June 18, 2008 lol, yeah i forgot to mention the crank :cuckoo: just need to get them out this faternoon as quick as possible and the head still on, thought it might be easier to whip the sump off and get them out that way. Hows your 24v coming along? any luck with the ecu issues? Cheers Gav
ziderapple 0 Posted June 18, 2008 Hope your feeling strong and/or have some help as the vr crank weighs a ton. Be careful. I had a call earlier re my 24v - new ecu is sending a spark to the plugs now  just needs to sort a fueling issue - easy - I pulled a relay out when compression testing the old engine. So he siad it'll be ready for collection tomorrow night. :D Cant wait to take it out. :D
peanut 0 Posted June 18, 2008 woohoo, excellent news. Did he say what the problem was? ive got exactly the same set up sat in our garage waiting to go in Gav
ziderapple 0 Posted June 18, 2008 We dont actually know what the problem was - but there was a section of the loom which got pretty badly crushed when lifting the engine, there was two screened wires which got damaged, these were repaired, we think the 5volt outputs from the ecu shorted down to earth and killed part of the ecu. either that or I was supplied with a duff ecu... peanut 0 Posted June 18, 2008 really looking forward to seeing this up and running. Undecided at the moment as to keep the fly by wire and use s much of the loom as possible allowing me to access all the diagnositcs later on or to splice the 12v loom into. Are you going to inters if you pick it and alls ok? Gav
