Supercharged 2 Posted July 12, 2008 Huh... I wonder why the PAS pump is different? Thanks for the price Steve. Yeah the G60 one is very similar but one of the outlets is different, VR one is completely different like a MK3 Golf unit. These things have various valves etc inside and can't be run dry - new ones come pre filled with oil but I would always prime by hand before starting up and run with the cap off the res for a bit to let the air escape first. n3p 3 Posted July 13, 2008 My PAS pump was £120 from a local auto shop, with a years warranty. Not gen VW mind..
Supercharged 2 Posted July 13, 2008 New ones are ZF (Sachs) i think - VWspares may be able to source them... On a 16V it might be worth getting the ABF version and doing the widebelt conversion
latestarter2 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Turns out it wasn't the pump afterall..steering rack instead. Cars back now although my stepson who's at the garage on work experience has put the steering wheel back on at 45deg..lol So he's got to redo that tommorrow morning  I've threatened to put a spazzy pic of him on here if the doesn't get it right too. I'm checking brakes and stuff over the weekend just in case. boost monkey 0 Posted July 16, 2008 so they charged you £200 for a new rack? Man, I need to get rebuilding my spares
latestarter2 0 Posted July 16, 2008 The whole job inc mot came to £330 inc VAT...
boost monkey 0 Posted July 16, 2008 fair enough, that's a good price considering. I was just wondering if the £200 they qouted when you thought it was the pump was for the rack instead? My wheel still points to 1pm, no idea why  really should get off my arse and grab the socket set.
latestarter2 0 Posted July 16, 2008 The rack feels a bit stiff at the mo compared to the old one..not quite as smooth. I guess that'll change with use and any ait works its way out of the system. I thought £330 all in inc MOT was pretty good.
Supercharged 2 Posted July 16, 2008 I thought £330 all in inc MOT was pretty good. Any garage bill on a Corrado that comes in at less than £500 is good
latestarter2 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Too true.. (praying I dont prang the front or rear bumpers) :pale:
boost monkey 0 Posted July 16, 2008 The rack will loosen up, definitely. The new tie rods I put on are rigid, need serious beef just to bend them off centre! Old ones slop around a lot, but that doesn't mean they're broken.
