Coilpack sparking question

Recommended Posts

my coilpack has always sparked when wet, i bought a new coilpack, shown in pic.

before i've fitted it, i have had car running and sprayed the old one with water and sparks can be seen bridging from the edge of the ht lead/where it meets coilpack, and the sparks leap to under the plastic cover which i've taken off the new one to show whats what.

is this a design fault or a problem with my ht leads?

It's because you have a little carbon trail across your coil pack and possibly some cracks. You could thoroughly clean it and put a thin layer of JB weld or similar accross the area to stop it from doing it again.

i would have said it was the leads, but thats only a guess.......

i didn't know you were after leads buddy - thought you had some, otherwise i would have said something!

i have some nice dubpower ones that i'll be selling that are only a hundred miles or so older than the coilpack if you end up wanting 'em....

HI

Its basically the start of the breakdown of the insulation.

I fixed an old one of mine (which I still have as a spare) using epoxy putty.

Good fix, and so far the unit has done approx another 10k with no issues

Cheaper than buying new one
