Adz The Rat 0 Posted January 16, 2009 Sorry if this has been covered before, did a search but couldnt see anything. My new inlet manifold is going to be need to be fitted soon, is it an easy job? Is there an online guide to it anywhere?? Ive got the Bentley manual but havent looked in that yet
A1 VR6 0 Posted January 16, 2009 It's fairly easy. You can undo the bolts with an allen key, the torque setting's only something like 16 ft/lbs IIRC. I used a tool which has a 1/2" socket one end with a hexagonal shaft and a ball at the other end which allows you to undo an allen bolt with the tool at an angle. The only other thing is the throttle body which is fairly easy to remove. Probably worth fitting a new manifold and throttle body gasket too. VR6 0 Posted January 17, 2009 The far right allen bolt (as you look at the engine from the front) can be a bit of a pain so if you're planning on removing the manifold again (Schrick for example and you need to change spark plugs), replace the allen bolt with a hex bolt so you can get a spanner on it instead of having to use an allen key. Makes life a bit easier.
jamminvr6storm 0 Posted January 17, 2009 A good tip if you need to get to the lower mani bolts is to undo the top nut on the front engine mount and jack the engine up from under the sump (remember to use some wood so you dent the sumpage) Yeah, leave the TB attached when you remove the old inlet and swap the TB onto the new inlet then replace as one lump.... my 2p of course ;)
