VR6 Engine Swap, made it worse, now sorted

Well, here's the thing.....

 

I've swapped my 150,000 mile VR6 Engine for a 79,000 mile one, using my inlet manifold, ancillaries etc. Changed Timing Chains/Tensioners/Guides etc. Fited a S/S 6 Branch Manifold. Took it for it's 1st drive today & it's hesitating & even backfiring, do I need to reset the ECU or anything simple like that?

 

When I say I've swapped the engine, actually it's more like a mate's done it for me so if any suggestions could be in very simple terms for me to pass on to him I'd be HUGELY gratefull :D

Don't know yet, currently trying to track down a VAG-COM person that doesn't wanna charge me £50+VAT

ouch! change the heading for VAG COM needed,but i would start there and go and check every conection over again.

What was it? Sounded like the ecu needed re-calibrating - ie taking it for a good drive!!

Ha ha oh yeah an explanation might help, well after a lot of horror stories and low compression readings it turns out that my mate's compression tester was up the wossname and it was just a lead..... Doh! :clap:
