Lots of rattles in the interior

Recommended Posts

It seems the previous owner of my Corrado had at some point removed the interior to install various speakers around the car, but now there are loads of rattles coming from everywhere and I can see visibly that the door cards don't fit properly. I've had a quick go at getting them to fit better but it hasn't made a difference. I've heard that the clips that hold them on need replacing once the door cards are removed, is this correct? If so, where can I get them from and how much are they likely to cost?

Combination of issues here I suspect.

If an alarm has been fitted then sods law states that they didn't replace the clips when they were doing it, worst clips are the upper A post trim, they are a designed to be re-used but are really only a one shot clip (Part number 357 867 646 9B9). Next up is the felt stuck at certain points to the back of most of the trim panels, this is likely to have worn resulting in lots of squeaks etc, get some new stuff from flea bay, it's cheap enough.

Door cards, all the fasteners here should be re-usable but the bottom clips that hold the card on tend to break, the corrado item is obsolete but the clips used on a B4 Passat are the same, it just seems VW didn't update the Corrado ones when they revised the design, part number 3A0 867 301 01C.

Rear quarter cards, these use yet another method to hold them in place, the clips are re-usable unless they have missed the hole, in which case they never go back properly, best bit is take the whole panel off and replace all of them (part number 823 867 299).

Finally have a good look to make sure all the attachment screws are fitted where they should be:

Rear quarter card, 1 screw near seatbelt base mount, another near seatbelt feed reel for rear seat.

Front door card, 1 screw on front edge of door, 2 x screws holding grab handle on door, 2 x screws on rear edge of door and depending on early/late interior a screw somewhere behind the speaker grill (early is easier to spot, later goes up and forward)
