GaVR6in 0 Posted March 11, 2009 So My gear box needs to come out to remove a broken bolt thats snapped it the bell housing, so while Im at it is it worth replacing the clutch. If so what is the best one to get standard, racing, black diamond. What have people got.
Leonard 0 Posted March 11, 2009 I did a lot of research into this earlier in the year. And the consensus was the std clutch from your VAG dealer is probably the best. I changed mine at 14 years and 85k and it looked like it still had a couple of years in it to be honest  Matt

pete_griff 0 Posted March 11, 2009 helix are the very best, but if you're not upping the power in future then the next best thing is genuine VW :) (why not get the pressure plate balanced before it goes on - make the bottom end all nice then! :) )

pete_griff 0 Posted March 12, 2009 if you take it to an engine builder/tuner, they should have the facilities t balance it for you. i was told by a very reputable mechanic that it's the pressure plate on the clutc that puts the bottom end most out of balance. by getting it balanced (same principle as balancing a wheel), it makes the bottom end rev up a bit more freely and eagerly with less flatspots (doubtful you'll notice the difference very much if at all), but the most important thing is it's nicer in the long run for your engine. helix clutches come balanced from the factory! :D
