cold start injector

Recommended Posts

Hi,

An easy one for someone (possibly)....

If you put 12v across the cold start injector, does it open (allow fuel to flow) or close (stop fuel from flowing)?

If I have not got a 12v ignition feed to the black wire to the cold start injector (as I believe I should have from the starter motor - correct me if I'm wrong!), would this affect my fuel economy?

thanks in advance!

Rich.

16v I assume?

The cold start injector is controlled by the thermotime switch I believe, Not entirely sure about the voltage to it, but I know it doesn't fire for long. Many people have disconnected them and don't have too may problems.

If the injector is firing all the time then it would affect your economy. Aftermaket systems such as K-Star used to use the cold start injector to add more fuel at certain parts of the rev range.

I could be talking a complete load of Mazda here but I'm fairly sure the coldstart injector fires at WOT as well? At least it did on my old Golf GTi 16v (but then it had been fairly heavly modified by the PO.

yeah, I think you're right, bit crude enrichment though, one hole drilled into the no.4 end of the inlet.
