What part should be here?

Cleaned my ISV and checked the coolant temp sensor today and noticed a couple of places where it kinda looks like something missing. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid..

There are 2 threaded holes on the front of the block, just above the Knock Sensor, anything supposed to go here?

The other thing is what looks like an electrical plug on the underside of the rad hose, right under the 2 temp sensors.

Yeah you are paranoid but that's healthy and there is no such thing as a silly question.

 

Simply you have nothing to worry about.

 

The two holes on the block are there for other parts to be fitted, VW used the same generic block casting for 4 cylinder models so there are holes all over the place for things that are not fitted. A good example is the cam lobe on the intermediate shaft (inside the engine), this is designed to be used with a mechanical fuel pump - not something you find fitted to any Corrados!

 

As for the plug looking widget, VW changed the design of the front coolant flange to accomodate 3 sensors for the mk 3 golf, instead of continuing to produce 2 separate plastic housings they used the 3 hole one and introduced a blanking plug, you can see the blanking plug.
