neil w 0 Posted April 10, 2009 Help, the abs on my 1994 2.0l 16v corrado has been non functioning since I got the car 5 years ago . The system is fully bled and the abc ecu has been checked and appears to show no sign of water ingress.The abs pump doesn't activate when the ignition is on and there is no power to the abs light on the dash. The problem is that I cannot find any of the abs fuses or relays , according to all of the wiring diagrams I 've found for the 1994 models the relays should be as follows: position 15 abs pump relay position 16 main abs relay position 21 abs pump fuse position 22 abs valve fuse. All of the other relays shown on the diagram are correct BUT my car has no second relay panel above the main fuse box. the only extra relay clipped on in position 14 above the main box is for the cooling fan. Where are the abs relays located on a right hand drive car? I've recently upgraded to G60 front brakes and Mk 3 rear calipers with all new vbrake lines but with the abs non functioning the pedal is still poor (infact its worse than any of the old scirocco's I've had in the past). I haven't previously been bothered but as my other car and all our works vehicles have power assisted brakes it's a nightmare jumping into the corrado and it having such crap feeling brakes. I'm assuming this is due to the abs pump/accumulator not powering up. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Supercharged 2 Posted April 11, 2009 I won't ask how you've been passing an MOT test for the last 5 years :lol: ABS brakes on Corrado's don't feel as good or positive as non ABS from my experience but there shouldn't be much difference... given the choice though I'd still have an ABS car than not, saved me a few times! The ABS relays and fuses on all RHD Corrado's are located just behind the glove box, you can see these when you remove the lower shelf and look up, makes sense when you think about it as they are then close to the ECU and the pump / valve unit. Like you say it probably is just a fuse or dead relay if you're not getting power at all, maybe shorted out if the matrix has ever gone or a water leak from a badly fitted windscreen? The other common issue is the ribbon cable inside the valve unit going brittle and cracking but I'd check the above first then either take it too VW or maybe a specialist like C&R or Stealth who are used to looking at ABS issues on Corrado's. MikeVR6 0 Posted April 28, 2009 What was the cause of the problem in the end? I have a similar fault that's just appeared on my VR. On mine the ABS light is staying on. In VAG-COM I can't connect to the ABS ECU to read the faults. I think it's not getting power, so possibly the relays. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

MikeVR6 0 Posted April 28, 2009 I had a poke around there on Sunday night. The relays behind the glovebox aren't clicking when the ignition is switched on. From a cursory inspection, the ECU doesn't show any obvious signs of corrosion. How does one remove said ECU? There's a lot of bolts and things going on in there! I have a spare one at home in Belfast. But of course I'm in Germany, so it'll be cheaper to buy one on Ebay.de than get mine posted over.
