Ignition Timing on a 9a 16v

Changing my dizzy tonight to try and cure my missfire problem.

 

Does anyone know if you need to unplug or block anything when setting the timing using a stobe gun?

can't remember on the 9A off the top of my head, but it's in my Haynes, will check when I get home this eve.

sorry for the late reply, Haynes just says ensure there are no outstanding fault codes and then connect up strobe light, no disconnecting temp senders etc...

Following on from this with a really dumb question.

 

But with a warm engine, and the strobe in no1 cylinder. Where should the lines be? Should they line up exactly or should there be a slight rotation back anticlockwise? Changed the dizzy a few weeks ago and it doesn't seem right at the moment... Lacking power...

if you don't have a timing gun that you can set to a particular advance then you need to use the gearbox bell housing hole and the flywheel 6 deg BTDC mark, worth marking these with white paint before trying to set up.
