earlier on this year my clutch went which i could understand because its an old corrado (1990). But now it sounds like the bearings are going again.......is it the s**t service and fitting or the actual standard clutch fitted............

Clutches on the Corrado are pretty darn solid and should last well over 100k - so I'd suspect it might either be the clutch you're fitting not being up to the job or the guy who's doing it that's not doing it right!

Do you know if he's using a genuine VW clutch?

And did they use the correct grease on the release bearing...

Take it back to the garage, as Jim said Corrado clutches last ages and ages.

Anyone know how much it is to get the clutch replaced on a VR6? Mine makes a slight whine when I pull away quickly (but doesn't appear to slip), is it the thrust bearing thats gone?

Is it A) worse when hot and B) only noticable when your foot is off the clutch pedal?

If Yes to both, that is more than likely the layshaft pinion bearing. Very common and nothing to worry about.

If the noise only happens whilst pressing the clutch, that is definitely the release bearing.

4 hours labour + clutch (£100) usually. If the clutch isn't slipping or juddering, live with it. Again, it's not important.

Ok thanks, the noise can be quite annoying though, and a little embarassing at times.
