G60_edge 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Hi, Can somone please confirm what the fitting is on the end of the hard line connecting to the flexible going to the front caliper (on a G60). Is it male M10x1? Getting some new hoses made up and want to be 100% sure I get the right fittings Thanks on advance Alex
Supercharged 2 Posted June 12, 2009 M10x 1mm is correct. You're best getting new union nuts from VW as they have this black coating that is corrosion resistant. You can also use the later (mk3) flexi line to go straight into the caliper if you like.
G60_edge 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Cheers for confirming. So the hard line fittiing is male, so female on the flexi. I'm getting custom one made up to go to new calipers with banjo fittings, also changing diameters/spacing so want to ge the length correct. Thanks for the reply Alex
Supercharged 2 Posted June 12, 2009 Hello, it depends on the year / chassis number of the car, early ones were both female on the flexi... Have a look on ETKA or the VW spare site for the pics and lengths etc...
boost monkey 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Mine (90) were both female but as I am putting 280mm brakes on the front, I have gathered all the parts for late brakes (male to female etc) although I have had nothing made.
G60_edge 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Looking on vagcat and from what I can remeber when I looked at the fittings a couple of weeks ago the hard lines are male. If I'm wrong I'll have to change the copper lines. Another question though, just phoned to order the hoses. Any ideas on whether I want a convex or concave fittings on the female flexi fitting onto the hardline union. Getting more complicated than I thought! Cheers for the help Alex
boost monkey 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Hard lines are all male Alex, so you're alright there. With the concave/convex thing? Do you mean the funny little sprung washer things? Lemme dig out my pictures... This pic any use? It's rear brakes, but i'm 99% sure the same fittings are used on the front. Those are still available too, I bought a bag of 10 a couple of months back. G60_edge 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Cheers for confirming the male/female issue. If I understand the concave/convex issue, its to do with internal of the fitting. I've gone for concave, as according to a friend thats what an aircooled vw would have. So, as thats all I've got to go on, i've ordered a couple of hoses with concave fittings. In reality it probably doesn't matter and the hardlines are proabably going to need to be cut off so I can make them again to suit Hopefully my caliper carrier brackets will turn up today, so I can have a go at fitting tomorrow. boost monkey 0 Posted June 12, 2009 oh right, you mean the insides of the hoses? Yeah, they're concave. Look like this: ______ ........ \ ______/ very rough, but you get the picture. the male hard line ends are convex or slightly pointed. They seal together really well when tightened. G60_edge 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Ah, nice one. Looks like I've ordered correctly. Cheers for confirming. Its a bit of a mission to take the hose of just to look at the fitting. Then have to put it all back on and bleed until the new hoses turn up. So, glad I didn't have to. Cheers Alex
