G60 Aircon

Now I know the LHD US spec G60's you find in this country had a/c fitted but did the UK spec RHD car come with it from the factory or was it a dealer fit option? Was it shared with the MK2 Golf? Or was it Diavia just like the ones on a VR6? Any info appreciated.

Dealer fit option so not standard kit.

 

You should be able to fit the LHD kit to a RHD kit without too much of a problem, although some of the aircon lines will be too short/in the wrong place.

I had it on mine Shaun. AFAIK it was a dealer fit one. I took it all out as it hadn't worked in years, and I wanted to make room for the Golf G60 intercooler.

 

The problem you have will be the trumpet between the air intake and the distribution box in the middle of the centre consol, as that had the heat exchanger in it. The LHD one will be different to the RHD one.

Thanks Yan. I thought as much. I've just got hold of a RHD G60 with working aircon in it and looking under the passenger side dash it looks a total lash up, very similar to the VR6 ones I've seen. Trouble is I have no info on it at all and who made it. I can only guess it's the same as the ones that went in MK2 Golfs.

 

Thanks Jonathan. I did a search and found an old thread about yours. But it had no info on who made it. Can you remember? I guess there will be something on the bits when I rip them out but I was just interested for now.

There was very little actual info on mine, sorry Shaun. However it also looked like a complete lash up. The passenger under dash tray was cut and badly glued together, and ther were wires everywhere (motly the same colour, amazingly). Diavia is a name that springs to mind though. ACE in Chertsey are air con specialists, and I took mine there when I was thinking of repairing it (12 Chertsey Bridge Road, KT16 8LF, Chertsey, Surrey. Phone: 01932570333). He seemed very knowledgable, and recognised the system, however in the end I decided I'd rather spend the money on performance 8)
