stevef182 0 Posted July 15, 2009 in the last week, when starting the car and first putting it into gear, as i pull away i can hear (and feel through the peddle) a very wierd grinding/buzzing sort of noise that lasts about 1 or 2 seconds and then disappears completely, gear changes are fine, pulling away is fine, just seemed to do it the very first time i lifted the clutch in gear to pull away...however, it has now done it a few times once the car has been warm and running for a short while and is causing me some concern...any ideas? clutch going? gearbox? Album56 0 Posted July 16, 2009 Hi Steve, sounds a bit like the clutch thrust bearing may be getting tired. Also be aware that the ABS does a self check at approx 5mph the 1st time you move after starting which produces a strange buzz/quiet rattle for a second or so. This noise worried me when I 1st got my G60 I thought it was a clutch problem but as there wasnt any other problem I learnt to ignore it, 15 years later its running fine then a couple of years ago on this very forum someone explained that this strange noise & slight vibration was the ABS self check. You learn something new on here every day, I hope thats what it is & not something more serious. Mick
Supercharged 2 Posted July 16, 2009 Yeah sounds like the ABS system pressurising but as above this should only happen once - get it on Vagcom and see if any errors are logged.
Critical_Mass 10 Posted July 16, 2009 Sorry to hijack. But on my previous 8v rado it did used to do this ABS self test. But My 93 VR doesnt do it. The light will come on when turning the engine on as the pedal will vibrate slightly. But when i drive off it doesnt test again. No errors on VAGCOM. Is this 5mph test just something the later corrados did?
stevef182 0 Posted July 17, 2009 thanks for the info! maybe it could be linked to the ABS. I recently fitted 288s and had my local garage bleed the ABS system after so maybe something was done wrong? Although the ABS light comes on when the ignition starts and i can feel the slight bump through the brake pedal that your supposed to feel, i thought that was the ABS check? Read it somewhere on here! and surely any vibration/grinding would not come through the clutch pedal if its the ABS?
