roger pavitt 0 Posted July 28, 2009 Hi I 'm new to the forum, but have been a member of the CCGB and have rejoined. I am being forced to sell my beloved, due to the problem of when the engine is hot ,it will not start for up to 2 hrs after switching off the engine, depending on the ambient temperature. It will start however up to 5 minutes after switching off, but after that nothing, the lights come up, but no turnover, no clicks, just deadly silence, its been to a specialist garage twice now and a lot of money has been spent to no avail, starter motor was changed. Reggit 0 Posted July 29, 2009 It's more basic than the above, the engine actually won't crank if I read your post right. Have you checked the starter motor? Have you tried to bump start the car when it won't go off the key? If it starts it proves the problem lies with the starter circuit somewhere. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Album56 0 Posted July 29, 2009 Had a similar thing on my G60 when the battery was dying, no response when key turned after leaving car for 45mins, I thought at the time that there was a problem with the solenoid or starter moter connections & after poking around for 10mins its coughed into life when I tried again. Drove straight home & had another look, couldnt see anything wrong but remade the connections several times to clean them up. Turned out the battery was 11.2v when I tested it, seems when the voltage drops below a certain level it doesnt even try to start maybe something to do with the immobiliser.Anyway a new battery fixed mine. If there is no click from the solenoid or cranking then it could be immobiliser or battery or earths or ignition switch, these should have all been checked. Supercharged 2 Posted August 1, 2009 What year car is it?? Sounds very much like the ignition switch and I can't believe a garage changed the starter without checking this! Next time it happens you need to take off the plug to the starter solenoid (thick black and red wire) and check for 12V down it while the ignition switch is in the crank position. If you get nothing it will either be the switch or an alarm / imob fault if fitted) If your ignition switch is not black in colour (ie never been changed) I would get one anyway and you can test this without actually fitting it.
